That’s why the sculptures of Varrias reveal to us charismatically their very beings, proving at the same time the talent of their creator.” In 1997, painter and sculptor Alkis Ginis, prefacing the album “Alphabet of the stone”, wrote about Varrias: “…His artistic interest focuses on the human form, while the minimalistic character of the forms he chooses to sculpt contain the simplicity of form and abstraction reminiscent of the folk art and the Cycladic idols. Uninterested in overindulging his sculptures with unnecessary details and finishing touches, he is content with just fragmental expression. …Nature’s own self-sufficiency, reflected in Aristides Varrias’ sculptures, is what makes up their special character. It is with this criteria that the artist selects the part of the piece of the marble where each form will be sculpted, taking advantage of the random shape of the model as well as the natural coloring on its surface, which are intentionally left in their natural state wherever this serves the artistic purpose, contributing in this way, to the personal trademark of the creator to be recognized by the viewer”.

Besides a great number of independent sculptures, he has produced and exhibited in Greece and abroad, complete series:“The Alphabet of Stone” (24 sculptures, 1997),“The Flowers of Stone” (12 sculptures, 2000), ”Plous” (9 sculptures, 2002),“Yades” (12 sculptures, 2003), “Pegylides” (12 sculptures, 2005 + 3 sculptures, 2008), “Ryades” (12 sculptures, 2006 + 3 sculptures, 2008) “Voices” (16 sculptures, 2010 ), “Aliktypa Bodies” ( 6 sculptures, 2016), “Alictypa Prosopa” ( 12 sculptures, 2016) and “Aliktypa Songs” ( 6 sculptures, 2017).

Many of his sculptures are set in public places and private collections worldwide.

Main Exhibitions:

2017 “Aliktypi Stone”
“Maria Tsakos” Foundation- International Centre for Maritime Research and Tradition, Chios

2011 “Parian Artists Exhibition”
Philological Association “Parnassus”, Athens

2010 “Voices, Pegylides II & Ryades II”
– Dimitrakopoulos Building, Paroikia, Paros
– Antiparos Elementary School

2006 “Pegylides & Ryades”
Homeric Municipal Centre of Chios

2005 “Archilohos and his time” Paros Town hall, Paros

2004 “Pariou Fotos Antidoron”
“Melina Merkouri” cultural center, Athens

2004 “Pariou Fotos Antidoron”
European Council, Brussels, Belgium

2003 “Plous & Yades”
Exhibition Center “Agios Athanasios” Naoussa, Paros

2002 “Genesis” The Hellenic Center”, London, England

2002 Exhibition HELLEXPO, Thessaloníki

2000 “Flowers of Stone”
Tower, Frome, England
1997 “Alphabetarion of Stone”
“Archilochos cultural centre”, Paros
Town hall of Lefkes, Paros

1983 “Second Annual Exhibition of Greek and Foreign Artists”
Paroikia Elementary School, Paros

1982 “First Annual Exhibition of Greek and Foreign Artists”
Paroikia Elementary School, Paros

<!--close column table wrapper.
